Supporting Suppliers

The major ingredients of a successful project are a willing and suitably qualified force of volunteers who have the skills and determination to deliver their project for the main line, together with a cash reserve.  Luckily, we have recruited the former and our excellent Chairman and fund raiser, Richard Croucher, takes care of the latter.  However, there is also the matter of the supply of materials, tools, fasteners, components and all the myriad of bits and pieces that go to make up a successful project, which means the delivery of a restored locomotive to the operating department for the public to enjoy.  Regrettably, the source of GWR spares that we have access to are diminishing as the GWS gets into more and more new-build projects.  Therefore, we have to make the parts.  We rely heavily on contractors and suppliers who understand our needs and can meet our quality requirement, often dealing with historical material specifications as we seek to meet grandparent’s rights.  It is these suppliers, some very small one or two man operations, who contribute so much to what we do and to whom we offer our thanks.

We publish below all those businesses that have helped and advised us in the hope that other projects will be able to feed off the list and take advantage of the excellent service we have received.  Who says engineering excellence is dead in the UK – certainly not the County Project.
